Wooden fifes are recognised as one of the leading Marching Band instruments to the Military. Brittania Fifes are renowned for their excellent quality of construction and superb tone. Only select cuts of wood are used and worked to a high standard to offer durability and an attractive finish. Fife history The Fife was popular in Europe during the renaissance and baroque periods, where it was used in military bands as well as a solo instrument. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the fife became an important instrument in military marching bands, as its high and piercing sound could be heard over the noise of battle. Today, the fife is used in military ceremonies and parades, as well as in traditional music ensembles and performances. Fifes are most commonly used in Fife and Drum Corps, but can also be found in folk music, particularly Celtic music. This diatonically tuned instrument is a cylindrically bored transverse flute has six fingerholes with no keys. The 2 part models are fully tuneable.
